Several years before founding Frankie’s Flags, I was laid off from my job. After months of applying for positions, I repeatedly encountered false job postings and silence—no callbacks and no opportunities. Before long, I found myself homeless.

To make ends meet, I accepted side jobs wherever I could. After suffering an injury while working one of those jobs, I lost even that small source of income. Soon afterward, my unemployment benefits ended, and my car was repossessed.

Life seemed to take away everything I depended on, but it never took away my determination. I knew one thing for certain: I refused to let homelessness become my permanent reality. I had to think differently, get creative, and do whatever it took to survive and rebuild my life.

How Frankie’s Flags Began

When life forced me to start over, I knew I had to dig deep and create my own opportunity. Drawing on my background in sales and marketing, I began searching for a way to earn an honest living.

I started small by selling pens on the streets of Miami. Although the income was modest, it proved that determination and hard work could still open doors. That experience sparked a new idea: selling flags.

After obtaining a street vendor license to operate legally, I launched my business with just three flags—the American flag, the Florida State Flag, and the Cuban flag.

Living in Miami, I quickly recognized the incredible diversity of cultures represented throughout the community. I saw a need for flags that celebrated people’s heritage and pride, so I reinvested every extra dollar I earned into expanding my inventory.
